The College of African Wildlife Management

Was established in 1963 following the Arusha Manifesto,signed by the late president Julius K.Nyerere in 1961.The manifesto highlighted among other conservation commitments the need for trained manpower to protect and manage Africa's natural heritage.The College draws its mandate to provide training,research and consultancy services by the College of African wildlife Management Act No.8 of 1964.The College is a parastatal organization under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.It is registered and accredited with the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) in Tanzania and recognized center of excellence by the East African Community (EAC) and the southern African Development Community (SADC). It is a pioneer institution in the field of technical and professional training in wildlife and tourism management in Africa. To-date the College has trained over 5000 wildlife managers from over 52 countries worldwide (28 African countries and 24 other countries in the world), the majority are working in protected areas throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

Location

The College is located on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, 14km north of Moshi town along a tarmac road. Kilimanjaro International Airport is approximately 60km from the College.
